Frequently Asked Questions

Here at Shoals Lagotto our main goal is finding each and every puppy a kind, loving home. We know that getting a new puppy comes with a lot of questions. Remember, all dogs require love and patience, especially when they are in their adolescence stage. The journey along the way is the fun part! We are happy to help every step of the way. Below is a list of questions we are frequently asked. If you have any questions that are not answered here, please reach out to us! We welcome any questions you may have.

What is the process to adopt one of your puppies?

(Reservation and pricing)

We like to speak with everyone before accepting a deposit. This give both of us a chance to ask any questions we may have to ensure this breed is a good fit. Once you have decided a Lagotto is right for you and your family, you can move forward by placing a deposit on the "Available Puppies" page of our website. We do require a $500 deposit to hold a puppy or reserve a spot in an upcoming litter. The deposit is included in the total cost of $4,500. The remaining balance is not due until pickup.

(Selection and processes)

We try our best to let everyone pick their puppy in the order we received their deposit. After you have reserved your puppy, please email us with any preferences you may have on the sex, color, or temperament of the puppy. This give us a guide to better serve you and help you find exactly what you're looking for. We will offer advice if needed, but ultimately it is your decision on which puppy you pick. This also allows us to ensure we have enough availability when accepting deposits.

Once the new litter arrives, we will contact you with the good news. The first few days are crucial to the puppies health and development, so we like to give the new mothers a week or so to get settled in and acquainted with their puppies before we start to handle them and take photos. After this time period is over, we will send out a picture of the litter.

We typically start the selection process when the puppies are between two and four weeks old. While we wish we could let everyone meet the puppies to make their selection, most of our customers live too far away to come and visit in advance. If this is the case for you, we can do the selection process virtually via FaceTime, Skype, Google Duo, or any virtual platform you may use. Once you select your puppy, we will put an identification collar on it and we will send out updates every 10-14 days.

(Pickup and delivery)

When it is time for your puppy to go to his/her new home, there are a few different options for pickup. We are happy having people visit and pickup their puppies from our property, but we understand that is not always feasible for everyone. We are more than happy to meet you at one of the following airports as well: Nashville, TN, Birmingham, AL, Huntsville, AL, and Memphis, TN.

What is provided to me at pickup?

When you pickup your puppy, we will provide you with a few things to make the transition a little easier. We will provide you with a puppy folder from the AKC. This folder will have the AKC Registration, Veterinarian records, and some more information from the AKC. We will also provide you with a small bag of dog food and a few toys and a blanket to make the dog more comfortable in the transition.

Can the puppy fly with me in the aircraft?

Yes! Your puppy can fly with you in the aircraft. If you plan to fly with your puppy, please let us know in advance as this requires additional paperwork from us. If so, we will provide a health certificate that allows your puppy to accompany you in the aircraft. The puppy must be in a soft carrier that will fit under the seat in front of you. You should contact your airline for any rules or regulations they may have.

Are your dogs registered?

Yes! Our dogs are registered with the AKC, and their puppies are also eligible to be registered with the AKC. We will provide a folder with your AKC Registration for your new puppy at pickup.

Will my puppy be vaccinated?

Yes! Your puppy will be up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations and will be de-wormed. The veterinary records you receive at pickup will have all of the information about what has been given to your puppy during the time here.
